In a statement, Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd said its sister company, Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd, has obtained help from Smart Selangor and Mara Liner to each add another 20 buses.
“For the time being, Rapid Bus will prepare 83 buses to meet the high demand, and the number will be ramped up to more than 100 buses to serve the five routes,” it said.
The five routes are Ara Damansara to Central Market, Ara Damansara to Kelana Jaya, Kelana Jaya to Central Market, Central Market to Masjid Jamek, and Masjid Jamek to Dato’ Keramat.
It also said 80 personnel from the Prasarana group would be deployed to help direct commuters to the feeder buses.
Earlier, FMT reported that Rapid KL had shut down 16 stations along the Kelana Jaya LRT line for a week from yesterday, this after they were shut down the day before after an automatic train control (ATC) system malfunction was detected.
The Kelana Jaya LRT line was also affected by the same problem on Monday, which disrupted regular service.
Prasarana president-cum-group chief executive officer Azharuddin Mat Sah said his company was looking into how it could compensate and refund passengers who had been affected by the disruptions along the Kelana Jaya LRT line.
Rapid Rail is the Prasarana subsidiary which manages and operates the LRT network and the KL Monorail.
Azharuddin said the stations were shut down due to an ATC system fault.
However, he said they had yet to determine the root cause of the ATC system fault, adding that this was why the stations would be closed for a week.
