“They are panicking because they are overthinking about the consequences (of their actions).
“They are worried that what you give, you will get back,” the Umno president said in a Facebook post.
A copy of the so-called agreement has gone viral and states, among others, that the candidates agree to support Zahid for the prime minister’s post.
The document appears to bear the signatures of BN’s Lenggong candidate Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, Zahid and Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan.
An aide to Zahid has since denied the allegations, adding that the document was fake.
Zahid previously denied claims that he had asked Umno’s candidates to back him for the country’s top post, describing it as “a lie”.
Shamsul had also said the “agreement” was fake. His aide had lodged a police report on the matter.
Earlier today, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said it was probing the circulation of the purported agreement.
Zahid went on to say that the latest allegations levelled at BN was proof that voters needed to reject their rivals.
“Don’t allow Malaysia to be administered by a government built on lies.”
