PERMATANG PAUH:
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim today launched the second Madani Mosque project under his administration, an RM80 million mosque here, in Penang.

He said RM57 million in contributions has been received for the project, with fundraising for the remainder still ongoing.

“If funds fall short, the government may pay for the remainder – but only if necessary,” Anwar said.

The mosque, which will be built on approximately 2.14ha of land, is intended to function as a community facility, featuring prayer spaces, a library, a hall, and accommodation.

Anwar said the mosque project was first envisioned more than 10 years ago and progressed after the land was secured through cooperation between the Penang government, the Penang Islamic religious council, and federal authorities.

The Madani Mosque project in Permatang Pauh is the second of its kind, following the first near Jalan Masjid India in Kuala Lumpur, announced earlier this year.
