Lim, who will be defending his Bagan parliamentary seat in the 15th general election (GE15), said he would leave it to the voters to decide his fate.
The former Penang chief minister, who is accused of corruption in connection with the undersea tunnel project, said the case against him was baseless.
“For myself, there is no money trail, so I think that is where we want to let the voters decide,” Lim told reporters at a function here.
He was asked to comment on the Center to Combat Corruption & Cronyism’s (C4) assertion that politicians facing corruption charges in court should not contest in the coming general election.
These politicians, C4 chairman Edmund Terence Gomez said, should clear their names before standing for election.
Gomez also said that apart from Lim, others such as the presidents of Umno and Muda – Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman respectively – should also sit out the polls.
DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook, meanwhile, said it was merely Gomez’s opinion.
“We respect his opinion.”
DAP Youth chief Dr Kelvin Yii said there was a need to assume a person was innocent until proven otherwise in court.
The party, he said, would trust the judicial system and allow for due process to take place.
“And if anyone is convicted, our stance remains the same, that we stand strong against corruption,” Yii said.
Pontian candidate
At the event, Loke also announced an addition to DAP’s GE15 parliamentary seat candidates, which brings the total number to 55.
Shazwan Zdainal Abidin was announced as the candidate for Pontian, where he would face Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Ahmad Maslan and Perikatan Nasional’s Isa Hamid.
