Beware floods from high tides, Selangor coastal residents told

High tides of more than 5m high are expected from tomorrow and as many as 13 areas of Kuala Selangor could be flooded.

Floods are expected to occur in areas of Klang and Kuala Selangor because of the monsoon and seasonal high tides.
PETALING JAYA:
Residents of coastal and riverine areas of Selangor, such as Klang and Kuala Selangor have been advised to be alert for possible flooding because of high tides and the seasonal monsoon.

Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari said a high tide of more than 5m is expected on Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday, Bernama reported.

Amirudin said the state government has already identified several flood hotspots around Taman Melawis. Several short-term measures will be implemented by the state government including installing additional pumps to accelerate the outflow of water.

Bukit Melawati assemblyman Juwairiya Zulkifli said as many as 13 areas in Kuala Selangor are likely to be flooded following the high tide and continuous rain from the monsoon.

“Among the potential areas are Tambak Jawa, Pantai Remis, Pantai Jeram, Kampung Sungai Janggut, Kampung Sungai Sembilang, Pekan Sungai Buloh, Pekan Kuala Selangor, Kampung Sungai Yu, Pekan Tanjong Karang, Parit 4 Sekinchan and Bagan Pasir Tok Adam,” she said in a video clip.
