PETALING JAYA:
Zuki Ali’s tenure as chief secretary to the government has been extended for another two years effective today.

A statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) confirmed his reappointment until Aug 10, 2024.

Zuki was first appointed to the position in January 2020, replacing Ismail Bakar, who held the post from August 2018.

“The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, upon recommendation from the prime minister through the Public Services Commission (SPA), has consented to Zuki’s reappointment as chief secretary to the government,” the PMO said.

Zuki turns 60 today, and there was speculation he would retire from the post as there was no announcement on the extension.

Before becoming chief secretary, he was the defence ministry’s secretary-general.

He also held positions in the finance, education, home, and rural development ministries, among others.

Zuki had also served at Istana Negara and the Prime Minister’s Department.
