PKR’s election website showed that Altimet had secured 743 votes against Isaac’s 734. Seven others also contested for the post.
Altimet said this evening that his first objective as division chief would be to strengthen relationships among branch members in the run up to the next general election.
“This is a huge responsibility for anyone to bear, much less someone who is seen as being a newcomer to the field. But I will not be handling this task alone as it is a collaborative effort between all party members,” he said in a statement.
He said the Ampang division leadership posts had been filled with talented and energetic individuals.
Isaac had claimed victory in the race for the PKR Ampang chief’s post on July 1. He had posted a picture on social media, showing him signing a document with the caption “Happy to announce officially that it’s official”, followed by the hashtag “Ketua Cabang Ampang” (Ampang division chief).
Altimet had been recorded as falling short by just two votes. He requested a recount. He said he had discussed the results with Isaac, who agreed that the margin was too slim to be left at that, according to The Vibes.
Isaac joined the party in 2020, while Altimet joined the following year.
PKR’s central leadership council finalised the results of the recently concluded party elections yesterday.
