This will be the Johor DAP chief’s first time throwing his hat into the ring for a state constituency.
Liew, who is also a senator, had previously served as MP having won the Bukit Bendera parliamentary seat in the 12th general election (GE12) in 2008 and the Kluang seat in GE13 (2013). However, he lost to MCA president Wee Ka Siong in the contest for the Ayer Hitam seat in GE14.
DAP will be fielding five new faces, while the incumbents for Johor Jaya, Paloh, Tangkak, Bentayan, Penggaram, Mengkilbol, Stulang and Pekan Nanas will seek to defend their seats for another term.
The incumbents are Liow Cai Tung in Johor Jaya, Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali (Paloh), Ee Chin Li (Tangkak), Ng Yak Howe (Bentayan), Gan Peck Cheng (Penggaram), Chew Chong Sin (Mengkibol), Andrew Chen (Stulang) and Yeo Tung Siong (Pekan Nanas).
Meanwhile, the five new faces are Ng Kor Sim (Jementah), Kanan Mariappan (Bekok), Alan Tee (Yong Peng), Marina Ibrahim (Skudai) and Wong Bor Yang (Senai).
