Yap said it was a shame that Chong had moved to a different constituency because the people of Kota Sentosa deserved a good report card, especially since he had been in government and was a deputy minister for 22 months.
Chong, a four-term Kota Sentosa assemblyman, will be contesting in Padungan in the Dec 18 elections.
“I pledge to provide my constituents a full report card detailing all I have accomplished or have not,” Yap declared.
He also vowed to be transparent and work towards securing the participation, opinions and general consensus of the public when implementing mega projects in Kota Sentosa.
“We can have simple ideas of direct democracy in place such as poll taking, town hall meetings and online meetings to get the feedback of the public on how they want their problems solved,” he said.
Kota Sentosa will see a five-cornered fight with Yap, DAP’s Michael Kong, Tan Kok Chiang of Sarawak People’s Aspiration Party (Aspirasi), Lue Cheng Hian of Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) and Parti Sarawak Bersatu’s (PSB) Lau Pang Heng in the fray.
