I too can’t stand political defectors, says Bung

Bung Moktar Radin reminds opposition MP that politicians from Sabah Umno jumped ship to help Pakatan Harapan and Warisan form the state government after GE14.

Sabah Umno’s ‘last man standing’ Bung Moktar Radin takes a dig at Pakatan Harapan over political defectors causing the fall of a ‘stable government’.
KUALA LUMPUR:
A Barisan Nasional MP today expressed disdain for those who jumped ship after an opposition MP told the Dewan Rakyat that party defectors were partly to blame for the economic slowdown.

In debating Budget 2022, Bung Moktar Radin (BN-Kinabatangan) said a stable government was needed to ensure a vibrant economy as it would subsequently benefit the people.

He added that political instability would scare away investors.

This prompted Khalid Samad (PH-Shah Alam) to thank Bung for “expressing regret” for toppling the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government, which he said had led to the political instability that remained until today.

According to Khalid, such instability was sparked by irresponsible individuals who had jumped ship and caused the collapse of the PH government, alluding to the Sheraton Move in February last year.

“This is the main reason why there is an economic downturn,” Khalid said, adding that Bung should apologise for this.

In response, Bung said: “I too do not like those who jump ship”.

He went on to remind Khalid that he (Bung) was the “last man standing” when Sabah politicians from Umno jumped ship to help PH and its ally Warisan take over the state government after the last general election (GE14) in May 2018.

“I did not defect.

“Azalina Othman Said (BN-Pengerang) is pushing for an anti-hopping law in Melaka. Are you and other opposition MPs going to support that proposal?” Bung asked Khalid.

“Let’s be gentlemen. If we lose, we lose. Let’s ensure our economy and government are stable for the welfare of the people.”
