He said the Integrated Crime Prevention Op 2021, for instance, was initiated following the increase in visitors from early October after the lifting of interstate travel restrictions.
“However, it does not mean there are no operations on normal days, we will still continue our operations regardless of the time and location,” he said in a statement posted on the Penang police Facebook page.
Last night, Shuhaily led an operation from 10pm to 2am, with Penang deputy police chief Fisol Salleh also present.
Shuhaily said the operation focused on SOP compliance at tourist attractions including the Esplanade (Padang Kota Lama), Weld Quay, Persiaran Karpal Singh, Queensbay, Auto City/Icon City, Design Village, Penang Times Square and Midlands Park.
He said the inspection involved not only visitors but also premises operating in the areas to ensure that the owners adhered to stipulated SOPs to curb the spread of Covid-19.
No compounds were issued and visitors were seen complying with SOPs, he said.
