PETALING JAYA:
Celebrity preacher and philanthropist Ebit Lew has been questioned by police to assist with an investigation into sexual harassment claims.

In a statement, Bukit Aman criminal investigation department director Abd Jalil Hassan said the preacher’s statement was taken at the federal police headquarters today.

The case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code, Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Jalil said the police will carry out a thorough investigation into this case before submitting it to the attorney-general’s chambers.

“The police requests all parties not to make any speculation or provocation so as to ensure that this case can be investigated transparently.

“Members of the public are also advised not to disseminate any materials that could affect our investigation,” he said.

It was reported today that a well-known preacher was told to be present at Bukit Aman to give a statement with regard to an investigation involving a sexual harassment case.

Earlier, a video went viral on social media showing a man resembling the preacher.

Meanwhile, Ebit said the allegations against him were slanderous and cruel.

“I was at Bukit Aman in my capacity as a witness to assist the investigation into allegations and gossip against me. I will leave it to the police to investigate the matter further,” he told reporters outside Bukit Aman.

Ebit added that the police recorded his statement for more than an hour and he gave his full cooperation.

He also said he forgave all those who have made these allegations against him.

Ebit’s lawyer, Hasnal Rezua Merican, said so far, police said there was no need for them to call the preacher up again in connection with the case.
