PETALING JAYA:
The head of Bersatu’s Temerloh division, Tengku Azlan Sultan Abu Bakar, has resigned from the Muhyiddin Yassin-led party and returned to Umno.

Umno Online reported that the former Jerantut MP submitted his application to join the Paya Besar division to Pahang Umno chief Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail.

Tengku Azlan, fondly known as Ku Lan, is the younger brother of the late Pahang ruler, Sultan Ahmad Shah.

He told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur that he was returning to Umno because he believed that the party was the cornerstone of the struggle of Malays and Muslims in the country.

“As Malaysians, we must defend the Federal Constitution regardless of political leanings. We should uphold our parliamentary democracy and constitutional monarchy.

“The Federal Constitution is the supreme law of the federation,” he added.

Also present at the press conference was Umno vice-president Khaled Nordin.

Meanwhile, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi thanked Tengku Azlan for choosing to return to the party, adding, “We continue to fight.”

Tengku Azlan served as Jerantut MP for three terms from 1999 to 2012.
