PETALING JAYA:
The Shared Prosperity Council, set up to determine policies and strategies in line with the Shared Prosperity Vision (SPV) 2030, held its first meeting yesterday.

The meeting was chaired by Muhyiddin Yassin, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said.

It said the council will also set targets, macro indicators and key performance indicators (KPIs) for key sectors in the country’s development.

All plans will be mapped out in an “inclusive and comprehensive manner” to achieve the objectives of the SPV 2030.

The PMO’s Shared Prosperity Delivery Unit will serve as the council’s secretariat.

The council’s members comprise 21 ministers, four head of departments, two heads of government-linked investment companies (GLICs), three representatives from the Malay, Chinese and Indian chambers of commerce, and leaders from the economy, education and social services sectors.

A shared prosperity executive committee was also set up, chaired by special functions minister Redzuan Yusof.

The SPV 2030 was first launched by the previous Pakatan Harapan government under Dr Mahathir Mohamad in 2019.

It aimed at achieving fairer economic growth and adding value to the economy to attract foreign investors. Mahathir had said the SPV 2030 would be fully implemented by 2021.
