In a statement today, senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the lockup at the home ministry’s Setia Tropika complex and the Immigration Department’s facility at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar, in Johor Bahru, will go under an EMCO after a total of 90 positive cases were detected at these sites.
Thirty-nine detainees, all of whom are foreigners, at the Setia Tropika complex tested positive for Covid-19. As at March 25, a total of 51 detainees have tested positive for the virus after a screening of symptomatic individuals.
“The EMCO will allow the health ministry to conduct targeted screening of the detainees, personnel as well as close contacts,” Ismail said in a statement this evening.
The EMCO at these two premises will end on April 10.
Meanwhile, the EMCO at a village in Keningau, Sabah, will be lifted tomorrow.
As of today, the health ministry has screened 1,396 villagers from Kampung Lingkudau, 91 of whom tested positive for Covid-19.
Ismail also said 80 people were nabbed last night for flouting standard operating procedures put in place to prevent the spread of Covid-19. This included failing to observe social distancing, failing to provide materials for contact tracing or registration of customers and not wearing a face mask.
Authorities also arrested 10 undocumented migrants and seized six vehicles and a boat.
