No plans for a deputy PM, says Prime Minister’s Office

This follows reports that a minister would be named as Muhyiddin Yassin’s number 2.

The Prime Minister’s office has denied rumours circulating on social media about an Umno leader being named deputy prime minister.
PETALING JAYA:
The Prime Minister’s Office has dismissed talk that a deputy prime minister would be appointed.

This follows a news report by a portal claiming that Foreign Minister Hishammuddin Hussein would be named to the post.

In a brief statement issued this afternoon, the PMO said: “Rumours that a deputy prime minister would be appointed are also untrue.”

Earlier today, citing sources, The Malaysian Insight reported that Hishammuddin is expected to be named deputy prime minister.

According to the news portal, the Sembrong MP and former Umno vice-president could be appointed to the position as early as this week.

The PMO also denied rumours that Muhyiddin had to seek treatment for his cancer, labelling such claims as “malicious”.

“Specialists who treated him have confirmed that the prime minister is cancer free.”

Muhyiddin was diagnosed with Stage 1 pancreatic cancer in 2018. He underwent an operation to remove the cancer and also underwent chemotherapy.
