SHAH ALAM:
PKR’s Zuraida Kamaruddin today indicated her opposition to Dr Streram Sinnasamy being fielded again by the party for the upcoming Rantau by-election in Negeri Sembilan, following a court order to hold a re-election for the state seat.

Instead, Zuraida said she was proposing a woman to contest in the seat, which was controversially won by former Negeri Sembilan MB Mohamad Hasan after the Election Commission blocked Streram from filing his nomination papers in the May polls.

“I would propose a Negeri Sembilan girl,” Zuraida told reporters today after addressing PKR members during the party’s women’s wing congress.

Zuraida, who is the wing’s outgoing chief, said PKR had not fielded female candidates in Negeri Sembilan in the May general election.

“I am a woman. I want to propose for a woman candidate because no woman contested in Negeri Sembilan.”

The Election Court today allowed a petition filed by Streram to disqualify Mohamad as the Rantau state assemblyman.
