PETALING JAYA:
Barisan Nasional’s (BN) official student wing has launched a campaign against a lawyer, accusing her of sedition in connection with an article she wrote which was seen as critical of the monarchy.

Siswa Barisan Nasional (SBN) said Fadiah Nadwa Fikri’s article, published on a blog on July 9, had created unrest and stirred doubts about the royal institution.

“This condemnation (of the monarchy) violates the second saying of the Rukun Negara, which is to be loyal to the king and the country.

“It is clear that Fadiah has betrayed this loyalty to the Malay kings and the country,” it said in a statement sighted by FMT.

In her article, Fadiah had criticised PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim for kissing the hand of Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar.

She said achieving genuine democracy in Malaysia was out of the question due to an “internal power struggle” which she claimed “reached a whole new level when the picture of Anwar, bending down, kissing the hand of the Sultan of Johor, emerged on the internet”.

“Given the prime minister’s strained relationship with the monarchy, there are no prizes for guessing why the prime minister-in-waiting did what he did.

“What is disquieting about the act captured in the picture is the indefensible feudal culture it’s embodying and the catastrophic consequences it’s transmitting,” she said.

In its statement, SBN said it lodged a report at the Dang Wangi police station last night over Fadiah’s article which it claimed “reeked of sedition” and indirectly inspired Malaysians to hate and criticise the special position of the royal institution.

Adding that Fadiah’s article had been widely shared on Facebook, it called on Malaysians to join the campaign against her by using the hashtag #SingkirFadiah.

Fadiah, a legal research officer at the Centre to Combat Corruption and Cronyism, was summoned to the Brickfields police station today over a separate report lodged against her for her article.

Maly rights NGO Perkasa has also submitted a police report on the matter, urging authorities to investigate Fadiah and take immediate action against her.

Fadiah has yet to comment on the statements of either SBN or Perkasa.
