He said the individual linked to a consultancy contract awarded by the immigration department is not a special officer of Zahid, who is also the home minister.
“There is no record of the person having been (appointed) a special officer to a minister.
“Maybe the person is one of the officers in KDN (home ministry) but not a special officer to the minister,” he said in the Dewan Rakyat today in reply to a question by Steven Sim (DAP-Bukit Mertajam).
Sim wanted to know whether a special officer to Zahid was involved in a contract to re-employ foreign workers.
Zahid had said in a written reply in the Dewan Rakyat last Nov 20 that Bukit Megah Sdn Bhd was appointed to handle the re-employment of undocumented workers.
However, Zahid at that time did not confirm or deny a claim that the firm was owned by his special officer Abdul Halim Suleiman, the former assemblyman for Puteri Wangsa in Johor from 2004 to 2013.
Nur Jazlan today explained the contract awarded to the company was made in a transparent manner and through an open tender.
“The contract was given to three companies, not just one, and the process followed the procedures set by the ministry’s procurement division.
