KUALA LUMPUR:
Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin today denied claims that the National Transformation 2050 (TN50) was created as “extra time” for Vision 2020.

On the contrary, Khairy said, TN50, which was announced in Budget 2017, is a long-term plan to fill the gaps in Vision 2020, with more targets.

He said Vision 2020 had nine aspirations, and only one was to make Malaysia a developed, high-income nation with clear targets.

“I am convinced that in two years, according to the World Bank, Malaysia will become a developed nation, a high-income nation, under the management of the Barisan Nasional government.

“Except that, in terms of other challenges, it is a work in progress.

“For instance, Malaysia will become a united nation, but how do you set a target that shows that we are a truly united nation? This is a work in progress,” he said in reply to an oral question at the Dewan Rakyat sitting here today.

Khairy was replying to a question from Mujahid Yusof Rawa (Amanah-Parit Buntar) on the continuity between the New Economic Policy, Vision 2020 and TN50.

Khairy said TN50 was the vessel for the continued struggle to shape a better future for the country with the involvement of all the people.

He said TN50 was a reflection and voice of the people of Malaysia, not the supporters of just one party.

“In terms of involvement, the TN50 dialogue was attended by all. There were no prohibitions on any party giving their views.

“In fact, I received many memorandums, ideas and aspirations from people of all levels of society, including youths and politicians,” he said.
