Jamal said he was called by the police following reports lodged by several individuals who claimed he had acted outside the law.
Even the hammer he used during the press conference had to be handed over to the police, he said.
“After the press conference, I was informed that police reports were lodged against us and our friends, claiming that we were frightening, gangsters, and that we had acted against the law.
“We feel very confused and sad. We are political leaders and NGO. The issues we brought forward are community issues, which revolved around the high number of gambling dens in Selangor.”
Jamal was speaking to reporters in front of the Ampang Jaya police headquarters here, after he was done giving his statement to the police.
In the Sept 5 press conference, Jamal issued out a warning to the Selangor government urging them to revoke the licence issued to gambling dens in the state, or face actions that are “outside the legal boundaries”.
“If the local council doesn’t take any action in two weeks, don’t blame us if we act outside the legal boundaries,” Jamal was reported saying.
To demonstrate how serious he was, Jamal then swung a hammer and broke a table with it.
Meanwhile, Jamal said despite the police reports, he still stood by his call to the Selangor government.
“I have received lots of complaints from the public, over what is happening in Selangor.
“If the local authorities revoke the licences, then they (the gambling den operators) will have to operate without a license, and we can lodge a report with the police.
“We as community leaders can’t sit around quietly. If we do, then we have to let go of our posts,” he said.
