He said the retaining wall near Jalan Raja Abdullah, Seksyen 9, Shah Alam, collapsed several weeks ago.

“I urge MBSA to immediately conduct repair works on the wall so that, at the very least, the situation does not become worse.

“While discussions and investigations continue on why the wall collapsed and whose fault it is, the safety of those living in the area must be given priority,” he said in a statement today.

A report by Bernama last Thursday said 147 families living in the area feared for their safety following a second collapse at the wall.

Khalid said MBSA had asked the homeowners to repair the wall as the council claimed the problem was caused by improper building of the wall.

The homeowners, on the other hand, blamed the collapse on the drain upgrading works left neglected for a while.

“According to the homeowners, the retaining wall had stood for 20 years but the upgrading works caused it to finally collapse.”

Khalid said the differences in opinion and the continued arguments over whose responsibility it was had left the problem unattended to. The almost daily heavy rainfall recently has worsened the situation, causing further anxiety to the residents.
