SHAH ALAM:
The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) today launched two electric buses in line with its goal of becoming a low-carbon city by 2030.

Shah Alam Mayor Ahmad Zaharin Mohd Saad said the two buses would replace the two diesel ones providing free public transport, connecting Sections 19 and 7 through the city centre at Sections 2, 3, 6 and 7.

He said the council took the initiative to use electric buses based on demand and the growing number of passengers which currently stood at 100,000 a month.

“This environment-friendly free bus service has been introduced as part of the MBSA’s green initiative aimed at reducing carbon emission by 45%, which comes up to 31,914.54 tonnes,” he told reporters after taking a ride on board the electric bus here.

The bus can accommodate 67 passengers and is disabled-friendly, featuring LED panels, closed-circuit television cameras and WiFi.

He said the council was also planning to add more electric buses in the future.

The bus service operates daily from 6am to 10pm.
