2 who dumped woman in river get 10 years’ jail

They plead guilty to attempted murder by dumping woman’s body in a gunny sack into Sungai Klang.

Two friends were sentenced to 10 years’ jail each by the Sessions Court here today for attempting to murder a woman by throwing her into a river last month.

Judge Slamat Yahya handed down the sentence on Mohamad Aidilfitri Mohd Powet and Muhammad Afiq Jamli, both aged 21, after they pleaded guilty to the charge.

They were ordered to serve the jail sentence from the date of their arrest, which was last Feb 7.

Aidilfitri and Afiq were jointly charged with assaulting Indonesian Misnah Sri Wahyunengsih, 37, by tying her legs and then placing her in a gunny sack before throwing it from a bridge into Sungai Klang.

The offence was committed on the Sungai Klang Bridge, Kemuning-Shah Alam Expressway (LKSA), Section 24 here, about 11am last Feb 6.

The charge, under Section 307 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same law, provides imprisonment of up to 20 years upon conviction.

The woman, who is a factory worker, was however rescued by members of the public.

The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Naliatul Huzaimi Ab Rasip while Afiq was represented by lawyer Salim Bashir. Aidilfitri was not represented.
