Its secretary, Mohd Fauzi Sharif, said the report also sought police action against those who had put up the billboards, in Alma, Permatang Tinggi and Bukit Teh, over the past two days.
“The billboards with the words ‘Free Anwar-Save Malaysia’ disturb the peace. Why must they be put up now when everyone knows that he (Anwar) has exhausted all avenues of appeal?
“We also fear that the decision of irresponsible people to hold a ceramah (talk) and a solidarity gathering on Jan 9 will undermine peace in the country,” he said after lodging the report at the Seberang Perai Tengah police headquarters here.
Fauzi said the billboards and the words on them gave a poor image of the judiciary.
“We call on the police to stop the organiser of the solidarity gathering because of the fear that it can lead to chaos.”
It is learnt that the ceramah and gathering would be held at the Seberang Jaya exposition site here and would be attended by top opposition leaders who were likely to urge the government to release Anwar.
Anwar is serving a five-year jail sentence after having been found guilty of sodomising Mohd Saiful Bukhari in June 2008.
The Federal Court, on Feb 10 last year, upheld the Court of Appeal’s decision in convicting Anwar after overturning a High Court acquittal.
