KOTA BHARU:
A woman is having to endure her confinement period at a flood relief centre again, the second time in two years, after her house in Kampung Tiong was flooded since yesterday.

Suziyana Zulkifli, 36, who gave birth to baby girl, Nor Darwisyah Qaisara Mohd Rosli, on Oct 9 said she and her family were evacuated to Sekolah Kebangsaan Tiong here at 11.45pm.

“This is the second time I have to go through confinement at the evacuation centre. The first time was during the big flood in 2014, just 12 days after I gave birth to my sixth child,” she said when met by Bernama at the flood relief centre here today.

Suziyana said even though it was difficult to observe confinement at the centre, she had no other choice as she was concerned for her own and children’s safety.

She was among 29 people from seven families evacuated to the centre since yesterday.

Another young mother, Azirah Jaafar, 23, from the same village, said this was the first time she was evacuated to the centre along with her four-month-old firstborn.

Azirah said she decided to move for fear of her baby’s safety.

“I’m quite used to being evacuated as Kampung Tiong is inundated by flood waters every monsoon season. However, this is my first time being evacuated with my baby,” she said.
