The electoral watchdog’s steering committee member Jay Jay Dennis was commenting on a photo of three teenagers clad in Bersih 5 t-shirts, posing with Jamal on Sunday.
Dennis told FMT that the trio were university students who have all promised to participate in Bersih 5.
“The allegation that they are no longer supporting Bersih after being talked out of it by Jamal was untrue. According to a Bersih 5 steering committee member, who is close to one of the boys in the picture, they are still joining us this Saturday.”
Jamal had earlier said he met the trio while praying at a mosque in Ampang, and that after listening to his explanation on why he rejected Bersih, the youth decided to “repent” by no longer supporting the electoral watchdog’s activity.
Dennis advised Jamal to “stop lying to the public”, adding that the Sungai Besar Umno division chief’s tactics are outdated.
“From my observation, he is now like a school kid who is unable to come up with innovative ideas to fight Bersih. He keeps failing.
“So I am asking Jamal to stop wasting his time,” he said.
The picture had also sparked concerns over the involvement of agent provocateurs who may intentionally provoke others and create tension during the much anticipated Bersih 5 rally.
