Its chairman, Noor Azimah Rahim – who in the past pushed for science and mathematics to be taught in English – said the sum was “generous”.
“Parents should take advantage of this,” Azimah told FMT.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Najib Razak, when tabling Budget 2017, announced that the sum will be used for schools to implement Cambridge English, Dual Language and Highly Immersive programmes.
Najib also announced a RM570 million allocation to reconstruct 120 destitute schools and upgrade 1,800 science laboratories nationwide which Azimah said will shift the emphasis of learning science through experiments.
“This will make learning fun.”
On a separate announcement that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission will provide free tablets to assist teaching to 430,000 teachers, Azmiah said that teachers must be trained to use tablets effectively in classrooms.
