“Don’t tell me that as the president of Umno, you (Najib) cannot take action against Jamal?” he told FMT.
Criticising Jamal, who is Umno Sungai Besar division chief, Yong also admitted that from the videos he has watched of Red Shirts supporters, he could recognise many of them as being Umno members.
“I recognised their faces from the videos,” the Barisan Nasional youth leader said about news reports and video clips showing Bersih 2.0 supporters being attacked and harassed in several parts of the country.
Over the past two weekends, the Red Shirts campaign, “Merah V2”, have been targetting Bersih 2.0’s nationwide convoy to promote the upcoming Bersih 5 rally.
In an incident in Sabak Bernam on Saturday, one biker in the Bersih 2.0 convoy was kicked twice by Red Shirts supporters. Three people have since been arrested in connection with the assault.
Yong said Jamal must be stopped before things get out of hand.
He also said that Jamal’s actions, specifically inciting hatred, went against Najib’s 1Malaysia motto, which revolves around inclusiveness, moderation and tolerance.
Yesterday, Yong had lodged a police report over a Facebook posting which was allegedly put up by Jamal on Sept 21, threatening a repeat of the May 13, 1969 race riots if the Bersih 5 rally goes ahead on Nov 19.
He said that although Jamal had denied being behind the seditious posting, he stressed that an investigation into the matter is vital because “it could affect the security and safety of the whole country”.
