JOHOR BAHRU:
Police yesterday arrested a woman for posting false news on her Facebook account on Wednesday about two children who were allegedly kidnapped, murdered and had their organs harvested.

Johor Police Chief Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said the 32-year-old woman was picked up at her home in Desa Coal Fields, Sungai Buloh, Selangor, at 6.30pm.

He said the suspect had posted the news item, claiming two children’s bodies were found on a riverbank in Johor with their internal organs removed, with the intention that it would be seen and read by the public.

“However, I confirm such an incident did not occur in Johor,” he said in a statement here today.

Wan Ahmad Najmuddin warned Internet users not to indiscriminately use social media for spreading false news that could cause public unrest.

He added that spreading of false news was an offence under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

The suspect is being remanded for three days until Sept 25.
