JOHOR BAHRU: Ex-journalist Sidek Kamiso and an unidentified person have been freed after a magistrate dismissed a police application to investigate them further for allegedly insulting Islam after the death of PAS spiritual leader Haron Din.

Lawyer Roger Chan Weng Keng said the court made the order as there “was an abuse of court process”.

“The judge ordered the duo to be freed without any delay,” Chan told FMT.

Chan said Sidek was brought here because a police report was lodged in this city.

He said Sidek was picked up from his home in Kuala Lumpur at 4.30am today and could have been produced before a magistrate there for a remand order.

“The police did nothing to investigate but only took his photograph.”

Instead, he said a police party accompanied him here from Kuala Lumpur to get the remand.

The journey by road took four hours.

He said it was unclear if Sidek would be charged with an offence tomorrow.

“He will not be under police custody as directed by the magistrate.”
