“I am a good person, so every year when I’m about to chair a division meeting, a lot of my friends and businesspersons, will contribute (some money).
“This friend will give RM10,000, while another friend might give RM20,000 and another will give RM50,000. So what is the problem?”
Jamal, who also leads the Red Shirts movement, was speaking to FMT in response to Ipoh Barat MP M Kulasegaran of the DAP, who earlier today questioned the Umno man’s wealth.
This came following Jamal’s surprise announcement yesterday when he promised to give RM1,000 to every delegate present at yesterday’s Sungai Besar Umno division meeting.
There were over 600 delegates present.
“When we are good to others, they will respond well and will always help us in return.
“But my stand is, all the political contributions I receive, I will give it back to Umno members and the people of Sungai Besar.
“I will not keep even one sen to myself.
“I make enough money from my businesses,” said Jamal to FMT.
He also slammed Kulasegaran for “making an issue out of nothing”, saying that even Opposition parties relied on friendly contributions to run their programmes.
“We politicians have a lot of friends. So it is too much if you want to question my contributions to Umno members and the people of Sungai Besar.
“I hope the MP will not question my kindness and sincerity, merely for his personal political gain.
“To me, he (Kulasegaran) is an idiotic politician, shallow-minded and is merely looking for publicity.”
