The two felines as well as others at the park, are also part of Sunway Lagoon’s efforts to further promote their wildlife educational programme.
Sunway Lagoon General Manager Sean Choo said the introduction of Samson and Asha would further strengthen the educational aspect of the importance of preserving wildlife for children in Sunway Lagoon.
“Through the programme, the Wildlife Park offers children the opportunity to appreciate wildlife that exists in our ecosystem. The educational tours provide an insight into the importance of animal conservation in Malaysia,” said Choo.
Weighing about 220 kilograms and stretching out to three metres in length, Samson and Asha join white lions, Zola and Zuri, and a group of black panthers at Sunway Lagoon.
The wildlife section of the theme park is fully interactive and houses over 150 species of animals.
White Tigers, also known as White Bengal Tigers, are marked as ‘endangered’ by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
In August 2013, Zoo Negara unveiled White Tigers in Malaysia for the very first time.
White Tigers are usually found throughout the Indian subcontinent. Although the range of White Tigers is historically large, these animals are incredibly rare as their coloration is dependent on a defective, recessive gene passed on from their parents.
They have an average lifespan of 12 years, which can be longer in captivity.
