KUALA LUMPUR:
Former Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Said explained he rejected the position of deputy exco member recently because he was humiliated by it.

“Try to imagine it for yourself. I’ve been a Menteri Besar and now I’m being appointed as a deputy executive councillor. Would you accept such a downgrade? It’s embarrassing and insulting,” he said when commenting on his actions at a press conference in conjunction with Perkasa’s Raya ceremony at Taman Melati here yesterday.

Ahmad, also known as Mat Said, had previously rejected the appointment announced by Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman.

In the portfolio reshuffle of the state executive council, Mat Said who is also the Kijal assemblyman, was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Housing and Local Government Committee.

Mat Said said although he did not officially receive the letter of appointment he was aware his name was listed and he was not in agreement with the appointment.

Mat Said also stressed that he would still remain with Umno as long as the party accepted him.

However, he said that if Umno felt that his actions violated the party’s rules, they had a right to sack him.

“For now I am still an Umno member and a people’s representative of Barisan Nasional (BN). That is, if I’m not sacked. If I did something that the party feels has violated its rules, then sack me,” he told reporters.

Mat Said, who resigned as menteri besar two years ago, was appointed Terengganu Perkasa chief recently.
