PETALING JAYA:
It’s raining cats and dogs in Kota Kinabalu but it is not due to grey skies outside but massive leaks sprouting sheets of water inside Kota Kinabalu Airport.

In a recent Facebook posting, AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes said he was “shocked” to see such a problem occur over and above those already plaguing the airport such as a dire lack of parking bays and toilets being in a mess.

He said, “Shocked to see this Video from KK airport. Problems continue in Klia2 and. Miri. Our office in Lcct. No parking ,toilets a mess. When will MAHB ever look after its customers.”

Tony was referring to a seven-second video showing water by the bucket-loads shooting from the ceiling onto the floor as red and blue buckets try in vain – and fail miserably – at catching the spill. Bright yellow caution signs warning of a wet floor are placed where the water comes crashing down, rather loudly, just in front of a shop selling gifts and souvenirs at the airport.

The video has been shared over 170 times since Fernandes uploaded it about 15 hours ago with over 110 netizens commenting on the chaos, mostly voicing their disappointment and disgust while others mocked Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB), the company behind the airport.

In an Astro Awani report last year in July, Fernandes spoke of his frustration at being ordered to relocate to Klia2, citing the problem of “sinking” that showed the airport was not fully functional yet.

In the video accompanying the article, Fernandes says: “We at AirAsia are evaluating all our options and taking a legal case (against MAHB) is not out of the question.

“We are really very upset, because we said this (would happen)… we didn’t want to move… we said the airport (Klia2) wasn’t ready… and look what happened now – there are bumps all over, there are cracks, and we cannot carry on like this. It’s very frustrating for me when I see my CEO spending so much time on this.”

Looks however that AirAsia suffered the same fate when it was ordered to relocate to KK Airport as well. Refusing to budge initially, AirAsia finally relented and relocated to Terminal 1 of KK Airport in December last year, only to face structural challenges to the building as they did at Klia2.
