They want to change the middle digits in their MyKad to denote they are Johoreans.
They are even willing to pay for this “privilege”.
State Tourism, Domestic Trade and Consumerism Committee Chairman Tee Siew Kiong said it had come to his attention that these so-called agents were asking for fees, ranging from thousands to tens of thousands of ringgit, for such services.
He warned people from falling victim to such bogus agents, Star Online reported.
The “01” middle digits in the MyKad denote that a person is born in Johor.
Tee said people in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur had asked him whether it was possible to change their MyKad number to “01”.
Tee said there was no way to change these middle digits in the MyKad.
“We welcome anyone to settle down and do business in Johor. You don’t have to change your MyKad number to do that.”
Asked why anyone would go to all that trouble to change their MyKad number, Tee said he believed the term “Bangsa Johor”, used to refer to those born in the state, and the introduction of the “Johor Muafakat” (“Johor United”) concept by the state government had attracted many to become Johoreans.
Furthermore, he claimed the state enjoyed steady development and the people of various races lived in harmony and had forged a stable and united relationship with each other.
Many Johoreans working in Kuala Lumpur are proud to be associated with the state and their Sultan.
