The group, mostly in red shirts, carried anti-Mahathir posters and banners and were heard chanting slogans such as “Insaf Mahathir”(“Repent Mahathir”) and “Hidup Najib” (“Long Live Najib”) for about 20 minutes.
Jamal claimed the protesters comprised members from several NGOs based in Kuala Lumpur, Seremban, Malacca, Selangor and Pahang.
Speaking to reporters outside the foundation’s compound, Jamal, who is also the frontman for the Red Shirts, explained the protest was held because they were disappointed with the former prime minister.
“Many who came today were loyal and strong supporters of Mahathir.
“But now Dr M is working with the Opposition, particularly the DAP which he wanted to previously ‘kill’.
“Mahathir is a traitor,” he said, referring to the Citizens’ Declaration signed by Mahathir and several prominent leaders across the political divide.
The Citizens’ Declaration is seeking for Prime Minister Najib Razak’s resignation.
Jamal, who was clad in a white baju Melayu and a skullcap, later handed over a memorandum rejecting the Citizens’ Declaration to a representative from the foundation.
On another matter, Jamal said he was unfazed by Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar’s threat to take action against him after the former threatened to torch billboards calling for Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim to be released from prison.
Jamal said while it was the police prerogative to do so, he defended his actions claiming the Selangor government had provoked the people by allowing the billboards to be erected.
When asked if he was afraid of being arrested, he said: “I didn’t do anything wrong, so why should I be afraid?”.
