The Urban Well-Being, Housing and Local Government minister made this accusation in the Dewan Rakyat today when asked to explain the differing rate of affordable housing in the various states in the country.
In clarifying the matter, Rahman, who is also MP for Kota Belud said it was the DAP-led state government that set the RM400,000 maximum price for affordable housing and not the Federal Government as claimed by Lim.
“This is nothing but a lie. The Federal Government never agreed for affordable housing to be set at RM400,000. This was a decision made by the state government (of Penang).
“Don’t involve the Federal Government in this issue. I don’t want the people of Penang to be angry with the Federal Government when the decision was made by their state government,” he said.
Rahman said this in relation to a video posted online in which Lim, who is secretary-general of DAP and MP for Bagan, said the state government was being unfairly criticised for houses priced at RM400,000 that were being passed off as affordable.
In the video, Lim claimed the state government was merely following orders given to it by the Federal Government, who set the rate.
Kasthuri Patto (DAP-Batu Kawan) however asked Rahman why he was singling out Penang and demanded he retract his statement about the state government, to which the minister replied, “Because (other) MBs and chief ministers are not like Bagan who lied.”
