According to the Borneo Post Online, Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office Mohd Naroden Majais made this call on behalf of local contractors, voicing his hope that JKR would consider the involvement of G6 or Class B contractors and below including Class F, E and C in the project, to ensure the participation of lower class contractors as well.
Naroden also called for flexibility in obtaining tender forms, where local contractors had to obtain the documents from Kuala Lumpur and return them there, a policy that had led to contractors having to bear travel costs.
He said he hoped relevant federal agencies could authorise their branch offices in Sarawak or the State JKR and Federal Secretary’s Office to give out and receive the forms instead.
The 1,089 km Pan Borneo Highway, costing an estimated RM16.4 billion is expected to be fully operational by early 2023.
