In a Facebook posting today, Yeoh said opposition representatives had never been allowed to speak at school events and Muhyiddin had finally got his comeuppance for endorsing such an unjust policy when he was Education Minister.
She said: “Muhyiddin barred from speaking at an event in a school in USJ4? Welcome to the club. Pakatan Harapan elected reps have been highlighting this injustice since 2008.”
In a Facebook posting yesterday, Muhyiddin disclosed that “certain parties” had barred him from speaking at the event in USJ4, but he added that he had expected the treatment.
According to Yeoh, she is still barred from attending school events even when these had nothing to do with politics.
“If I want to give a school a cheque, I have to do it from outside the school gate.”
Yeoh expressed hope that all schools would be free from political control. “I hope they realise now that schools should never be used as political tools, and I will repeat what we have been saying all along – set our schools free.”
Muhyiddin was dropped as deputy prime minister and education minister in a cabinet reshuffle last July after he openly criticised Prime Minister Najib Razak over alleged financial scandals.
Although he remains Umno Deputy President, the party has apparently sidelined him. Last December, he was barred from addressing the Umno general assembly.
