PETALING JAYA:
There’s no denying it – seafood is absolutely succulent and, as the quintessential Malaysian for whom food is life, you can’t be blamed for craving it every so often.

Well, good news! If your tummy is rumbling for some maritime delights, head over to Cinnamon Coffee House at One World Hotel in Petaling Jaya for the feast of a lifetime.

Every Friday and Saturday from 6.30pm to 10.30pm, lovers of all things oceanic are invited to gorge themselves on a plethora of dishes prepared by the establishment’s talented chefs.

Cinnamon’s seafood buffet dinner kicked off for the Raya season, but popular demand has dictated it stays for the foreseeable future.

Whether you are with a dining party, with a date, or by yourself, all foodies will be warmly welcomed here.

Stepping into the restaurant, you will find yourself in a cosy dining environment augmented by the beautiful interior decor. Fountains outside the windows are a nice touch, and you can watch the chefs hard at work behind glass panes.

More importantly, though, let’s take a deep dive and see what the sea has served up!

Salmon fans, rejoice – the cold appetisers that kickstart your feast are tasty indeed, with Salmon Bellevue and home-cured salmon gravlax taking the spotlight.

If you’re a sushi fan, you will find yourself delighted to see the array laid out before you. In the part of the restaurant reserved for Chef John Jr’s Japanese Specials, spoil yourself with a wide selection of sushi, maki, nigiri and sashimi.

The spread here is excellent, the fish fresh and the rice perfectly seasoned. Don’t hesitate to ask the chefs for some slices of raw fish to enjoy – they’re delicious with some soy sauce and a smidgen of wasabi.

And to drive home the point that all these delicacies were made fresh and by hand, a massive tuna – or half of it – sits gaping at you from the countertop.

Yup, the tuna on the countertop is very much real, having been cut in half to fit the counter space. (Noel Wong @ FMT Lifestyle)

Looking for seafood on ice? Don’t worry, Cinnamon has not neglected this classic feature of a seafood buffet.

Take your pick of flower crab, crayfish and snow crab leg chilling away. Also, you can’t miss the geoduck, that priceless clam infamous for its… well… appearance. If you’re wondering what it tastes like, it has a distinct sweetness and crunchiness that most clams don’t offer. Go on and give it a try!

Meanwhile, food stations throughout the restaurant offer beloved Malaysian delicacies, most with a seafood spin.

At the Chinese cuisine station, partake of some hot and steaming dim sum, as well as a bowl of double-boiled soup.

The steamed clams, too, are definitely worth your attention, with soy sauce, garlic and ginger adding to the explosion of flavours.

And speaking of flavours – the Indian cuisine station offers a savoury selection of spicy undersea goodness. Crab masala, mamak fish head curry, prawn biryani, and mussel varuval are all on the menu and deserve space on your plate.

Also not to be missed is the Portuguese sambal baked stingray, best enjoyed with its piquant condiments. And while you’re there, don’t forget to pick up a few sticks of satay and some peanut sauce to treat yourself to this perennial Malaysian favourite!

If your tastes gear towards the European, fret not – the aglio olio squid ink pasta should hit the spot, especially since it comes with a pan-grilled rock lobster.

And then there’s the paella – savoury rice cooked with (surprise, surprise!) more seafood – so tasty and authentic, it will transport you to the shores of Spain.

Cheese connoisseurs will also be pleased to find a fine selection here – perhaps a glass of wine and some crackers to go with it?

As for desserts: sinful cakes and delectable pastries await, including a decadent chocolate fountain for you to dip into with marshmallows and fruit.

On the subject of pastries, check out Zuan Yuan’s Mooncake Delights on display in the restaurant. It might be early yet, but why not start building up that mooncake stash for the Mid-Autumn Festival?

Priced at RM238 per adult and RM119 for children aged six to 12, this extravagant seafood buffet dinner at Cinnamon Coffee House is well worth it. Plus, if you are a Maybank credit card holder, it’s 15% off your total bill for you!
