KUALA LUMPUR:
Ask what’s the best thing about being Malaysian, and many people will reply: food, glorious food.

This country’s rich culinary heritage is an intricate fusion of various cultures, each contributing unique flavours, ingredients, and cooking techniques.

This Ramadan, celebrate the diversity and deliciousness of Malaysian cuisine in a luxurious 5-star dining environment at Imperial Lexis Kuala Lumpur and their “Bufet Istimewa Cita Rasa Lexis” offering.

This buffet takes diners on a sumptuous culinary journey featuring beloved local dishes such as Rendang Daging, Chicken and Beef Satay, Paku Goreng Belacan, Bubur Lambuk, and Sup Tulang Rawan.

All the usual trappings of a bountiful buffet are present and accountable here.

There’s a carving station with roasted whole lamb, a dessert corner overflowing with decadent pastries, a noodles section offering fish paste noodles soup or curry mee, and even an ice cream parlour. Even the pickiest eater is sure to find something they will enjoy here!

You can also enjoy a variety of local appetisers: lemang, ketupat palas, serunding daging and cucur udang. The Rojak Pasembor is immersed in a lip-smacking tangy sauce, while the ketupat pulut hitam is quite a treat.

There’s also a whole section devoted to ulam that you can spice up with a whopping 10 varieties of sambal – sambal Ikan Bilis Tempoyak! Sambal Budu! Sambal Cincaluk! So many ways to set your mouth on fire!

If you’re ker-azy about kerabu, this buffet is the place for you: over half a dozen varieties of this traditional Malaysian salad are available here, including Kerabu nenas, Kerabu Ikan Bilis, Kerabu Sotong and Kerabu Kacang Botol.

The Ikan Tiga Rasa is cooked nicely, and tastes even better paired with other dishes such as the Tofu Masak Tomato or Wok-Fried Green Vegetables.

Also try the Braised Herbal Duck. Its tender meat is earthy and satisfying, or feast on Murtabak Ayam or Udang Harimau Masak Lemak.

There are plenty of options for making your own salad here. (Moganraj Villavan@FMT Lifestyle)

While a lot of the food at the buffet table is local, many international dishes are also available for everyone’s dining pleasure.

Enjoy yourself getting stuffed on Egypt Stuffed Vegetables from the Arabic Specials, or ‘tikka’ chance on the Fish Tikka.

The well-stocked Western station hosts plenty of savoury selections such as Chicken Chop with Onion Gravy, Roasted Lamb Chops with Herb Jus and Tagliatelle Beef Bolognese.

Try the Creamy Crab Penne Alfredo, presented in a wheel of cheese, and don’t miss the delightfully savoury Baked Oysters with Cheese.

Have your fill at the Seafood On Ice section. (Moganraj Villavan@ FMT Lifestyle)

Over at the Seafood On Ice section, you’ll enjoy a good maritime meal with half-shell scallops, slipper lobster, tiger prawns, New Zealand mussels and flower crabs all available.

Also try the Norwegian Smoked Salmon, which tastes especially delightful with capers and red onions.

The Beverage section can be an unexpectedly nostalgic experience. Use a yellow plastic scoop to fill your glass (pasar malam or school canteen style!) from several large transparent tanks, each containing a classic Malaysian drink: chrysanthemum tea, cincau, sirap bandung and asam boi lemonade.

Finish your meal with a cool bowl of Ais Batu Campur, or sample the luscious local desserts on display.

Putu piring or sago gula Melaka? Dodol or pisang goreng? Bubur Pulut Hitam or chilled sea coconut? Why not take them all?

And if you’re a lover of our pungent king of fruits, the crispy Durian Goreng is a must-taste.

Overall, the vast variety of delectable dishes here will probably not only satisfy your stomach, but also fill your heart with appreciation for Malaysia’s rich and diverse culinary landscape.
