If you’re new to the area, it can be easy to miss the establishment as it has an unassuming façade and a slightly faded signboard. But you can’t miss the long queue at the entrance during lunch hour!
The establishment is currently run by the grandsons of the founder, Syed Abdul Razak Ahmad Kabir and Syed Salamudeen Ahmad Kabir.
Walk in and a counter displays an array of side dishes, from chicken and beef to mutton and seafood. Syed Salamudeen can often be seen attending to customers and pouring various curries over steaming plates of rice.
So, does Restoran Lankapuri live up to its reputation?

A default serving of rice comes with vegetables, salted egg, papadom and lashings of curry – a balance of sweet and spicy – as well as fragrant fried shallots.
Go ahead and add on the side dishes of your choice. One highlight here is the fried chicken: generous in size, juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside.
The mutton curry is also a good option. The meat is tender and bursting with flavour, while the gravy is rich and fragrant.
If you’re hankering for seafood, the squid curry is worth a try. Soft and chewy, the sweet flesh is complemented by the tasty, aromatic curry.
Not too keen on meat or seafood? Go for the omelette instead. Each thick slice is filled with chillies and onions, making it a simple yet flavourful addition to your meal.

The restaurant also offers other dishes such as roti canai telur and mee goreng mamak. The flatbread is crispy without being too greasy, while the noodles have just the right amount of spice to give it a kick.
Enjoy your food with a hot, frothy cup of teh tarik and you’re in for a satisfying meal!
Plus, foodies take note: Restoran Lankapuri is located in front of two other well-known eateries: Cathay Hailam Kopitiam, which serves delicious Hainan fare, and Restoran P R Meiappan, where one will find lip-smacking Indian cuisine.
