If you’re in Ipoh and have a hankering for one of the most popular dishes to come out of Perak’s charming capital city, one spot you should check out is Kedai Makanan Loke Wooi Kee.
It might be one of the most old-school, less popular (among young people), and un-touristy places in town, but don’t let these factors fool you – this humble corner eatery serves up a mean “kai si hor fun”!
Loke Wooi Kee is just a stone’s throw away from the busy heart of town, which means the parking situation here is better, with a thinner morning crowd primarily made up of locals.
The stall, of course, offers classic Ipoh-style hor fun with prawn and shredded chicken, plus a side of bean sprouts.
Happily, the soup here is bang on, packed with the aroma and sweetness of the prawns; while the chicken is boiled (or perhaps steamed first) to tender perfection.

Throw in some chives and bean sprouts and you have a steaming hot bowl of hor fun soup that may well be among the best you’ve ever had!
The serving of bean sprouts on the side, too, will not disappoint: fat, juicy, and soaked with a soy sauce mix that isn’t overpowering.
All in all, this place is well worth a visit, so if you live outside of Perak, why not head north or south on a road trip to Ipoh today and have your fill?
