To celebrate Independence Day, when barbecue grills go into overdrive and household kitchens are abuzz with activity, Google’s Doodle team created an interactive “Foodle” map of food trends over the last 12 months.
According to the Doodle, the most popular recipe search among New Yorkers, for instance, is chicken cutlets, while residents of Washington DC were looking up how to make crab cakes.
In Ohio, the top recipe search is for sausage gravy — an indulgent sauce made with pork sausage, flour, milk and generous amounts of cracked black pepper — and in Montana, it’s chili.
And on the West Coast, Californians were looking up quinoa recipes while tortilla soup was the most popular recipe among Texans.
