After wushu exponent Loh Choon How and breakdancer Lego Sam won the first two gold medals early in the day, the national polo team defeated favourites Philippines in the final to retain their title.

The 7-5.5 win at Miguel L. Romero Polo Ground was made sweeter by the fact that it was achieved on borrowed horses.

Team manager Zekri Ibrahim told Bernama the hosts did not allow importing of horses.

“This win can be attributed to our indomitable spirit as on paper we weren’t given much of a chance to retain gold due to lack of ‘horse power’,” he said.

Julian Yee, the only Malaysian to compete at the Winter Olympics (PyeongChang 2018), then added gold No 4 in figure skating.

The 22-year-old defending champion was far superior than his competitors, scoring 202.62 total points over two events – short programme (63.35 points) and free skating (139.27).
