PHNOM PENH:
National dancesport representative Sam Jee Lek mesmerised the judges en route to defending the men’s breakdance (B-boy) gold medal at the 2023 Cambodia SEA Games today.

In the final round held at the Olympic Complex Marquee, Sam, better known as ‘Lego Sam’, was truly in his element as his energetic moves captured the hearts of the judges and enabled him to take home the gold by beating his rival Chinavut Chantarat (Cheno) of Thailand 3-0.

Another Thai dancer, Kantapon Rodsaart, took the bronze.

Sam won the men’s breakdance event for Malaysia’s first gold in a dancesport event at the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines.

The B-boy event was not contested in Hanoi, Vietnam, in 2021.

Team manager Chua Zjen Fong praised Sam’s performance in the final today.

“I am satisfied with how Sam did today. Even though dancers from the other countries produced excellent performances in terms of technique but his moves were unique. It gave him an edge,” he told Bernama.

Sam has won over 80 titles in various levels of competition, including consecutive Red Bull BC One titles in 2015 and 2016.

Sam also sits on the panel of judges in domestic and international competitions besides being involved in stage and live performances.
