The solar farms, to be constructed on two sites, are expected to begin commercial operation by Q1 2024. The venture will provide long-term revenues under a 15-year contract-for-difference (CfD) subsidy scheme, awarded in 2022.
Vantage RE will oversee the project delivery, and once operational the solar farms will deliver enough clean energy to supply the energy needs of 37,000 homes. The project will save over 46,750 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2).
TNB president and CEO Baharin Din expressed his delight at progressing the company’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) efforts and the growing TNB presence in the UK.
“We are pleased to be partnering with BELECTRIC as we grow our solar generation portfolio in the UK, progressing towards our global ESG efforts to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, as outlined in TNB’s Sustainability Pathway,” he said.
He added that such projects were further evidence of TNB’s efforts to futureproof their business as it transitions to the green economy.
“The move upstream into greenfield development is in line with TNB’s aspiration in becoming a global sustainable energy provider.”
TNB’s growing capacity in the UK has seen year-to-date Q3 2022 earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation (Ebitda) contributions from their UK portfolio increase 31.7% year-on-year to £55.6 million (RM299.32 million).
