REV Media Group expands reach in Chinese market with new acquisition

Media group takes over Tantannews.com from Monster Scape through its subsidiary REV Media.

At its peak, Tantannews.com had seven million users and 20 million page views every month.

REV Media Group Sdn Bhd has expanded its reach into the Chinese market through the acquisition of the intellectual property assets of Tantannews from Monster Scape Sdn Bhd.

In a statement issued today, REV Media Group said it planned to expand and strengthen its reach among the Chinese speaking online community through its acquisition of the Tantannews domain, tantannews.com.

It said Tantannews’ strong digital presence would contribute to its digital business and media solutions strategy for its advertisers.

REV Media Group is the digital publishing unit of Malaysia’s largest media group Media Prima Bhd.

At its peak, Tantannews had more than seven million users and 20 million page views per month.

Tantannews, which was launched in 2013, is a Chinese social news and content portal that focuses primarily on entertainment, travel, fashion and lifestyle.

REV Media Group said the acquisition of Tantannews would accelerate the growth of its own Chinese network that now includes ViralCham, Rojaklah, 8TV and 8FM.

Its CEO, Samuel Wee, said the acquisition was a strategic move given the growing demand for Chinese-language content.

Tantannews founder Sean Teoh said Monster Scape would now focus on technology by investing in the development of its own content management system.
