PETALING JAYA:
A Johor Barisan Nasional leader has dismissed as fake a list of BN’s candidates for the state polls that is currently making the rounds online.

“We have yet to discuss the candidates,” Abdul Halim Suleiman, the secretary of the coalition’s state chapter, told FMT.

According to the purported list of candidates, MCA would contest nine seats, while MIC would stand in two constituencies. Umno would contest the remaining seats.

The Johor legislative assembly was dissolved yesterday, paving the way for the 16th state election to be held within the next 60 days.

Last month, Onn Hafiz Ghazi, the Johor BN chairman said the coalition would contest all 56 state seats.

In the 2022 state polls, BN won 40 seats, Pakatan Harapan secured 12, Perikatan Nasional won three and Muda one.

Earlier this evening, BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Onn Hafiz would remain the coalition’s poster boy for the state polls.

Zahid also said BN was aiming to win more than 40 state seats.

It was reported earlier that Johor MIC was eyeing four seats in the state election.

Its chairman, K Raven Kumar, said the party would reveal the seats it hopes to contest in due course.
